To avoid Leadership Challenge, we must fully understand what it means to be a TRUE Leader. If you have been with Network Marketing for a little while, you probably understand that the POWER of this industry lies in Leverage. I find that using two contrasting scenarios is the best way to illustrate this time leverage concept:
As you read on, ask yourself: Which is a Smarter Way to work?
You work hard, say, for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week= 60 hours/week manpower
You personally work only 12 hours a week BUT having a team of 100 people, each working 12 hours a week (towards the SAME goal – to move products/services for the company). This gives you 1200+12 = 1212 hours/week manpower
What has this Time Leverage to do with TRUE Leadership?
Answer: Network Marketing is a PEOPLE Business!
Due to the nature of this industry, our team members are NOT our employees. They do not have to work 12 hours a week. The “be our own boss, choose our own working hours, choose whom do you want to work with, etc” benefits can be the exact reasons why many of our team members are not doing something that is producing results!
Leadership style can make or break our organization!
“I have a full time job, I just don’t have the time to do it.”
“I am not like you, I have much younger children…I don’t think I can manage.”
“My husband (or wife) is not supportive of what I am pursuing…”
“I am just not the personality type to be able to do well in this type of thing.”
“This industry may work well for them but, in our culture, people just don’t like to run this type of business.”
The EXCUSES are many! You have heard it all. I can easily write pages and pages….
A good leader would respect others’ situation and keep on encouraging and inspiring them through action, commitment and success stories. Not bad! You may have to wait for years before someone decide to step up and be a Leader!
A TRUE Leader focuses on skillfully CHALLENGING the belief, allowing the other person to SELF-Question their original belief.
Team member: “I have a full time job, I just don’t have the time to do it.”
TRUE Leader: “I totally understand that it is not easy to start this side business while having a full time job. You mentioned that you really want to get yourself an additional source of income for a comfortable retirement. Do you still want your dream?“
